President of HSN Pays Courtesy Visit to Governor of Adamawa State and GOC, Eastern Command, Nigerian Navy, Calabar

In a significant gesture of goodwill and collaboration, the President of the Historical Society of Nigeria (HSN) Prof. Samuel O. Aghalino FHSN, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Adamawa State, His Excellency Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Eastern Command, Nigerian Navy, Calabar.

During the visit to Governor Fintiri, a historian, the President of HSN expressed appreciation for the Governor’s unwavering support for historical research and education in Adamawa State. The discussion centered on the importance of preserving historical scholarship and promoting cultural heritage as a means of fostering unity and understanding among the diverse communities in the state. Governor Fintiri, known for his progressive policies, reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance the state’s historical and cultural landscape. The President was accompanied on this visit by Profs. Muhammed Kyari (Vice Chancellor Nigerian Army University Biu) Kpongri.

Meanwhile, the workaholic HSN President had earlier visited the GOC, Eastern Command, Nigerian Navy, Calabar, which was equally productive. The President of HSN highlighted the crucial role of the Nigerian Navy in safeguarding the nation’s maritime heritage and ensuring security along the coastal regions, which is the central theme for this year’s HSN conference slated for Yenagoa Bayelsa State. The GOC, in turn, emphasized the Navy’s dedication to protecting Nigeria’s maritime interests and collaborating with academic institutions to document and preserve the country’s rich naval history. The President was accompanied on this visit by Profs. David Imbua (VP South-South) Grace Brown (Council Member South-South) and Dr Obar Irom (Deputy National Secretary). 

These visits underscore the Historical Society of Nigeria’s dedication to fostering partnerships with governmental and military institutions to promote historical awareness and education. The engagements also reflect a shared commitment to preserving Nigeria’s rich cultural and historical heritage for future generations.
